At the Festspiele Taggenbrunn, the acclaimed Lithuanian soprano Asmik Grigorian and the pianist Lukas Geniušas devote an evening to the songs of Sergei Rachmaninov. The concert was recorded on 31 May 2022 at Taggenbrunn Castle in Carinthia.

The programme spans Rachmaninov’s songs from the early romances op. 4 and op. 8 to “Dissonance”, op. 34 no. 13, including “Spring Waters”, op. 14 no. 11, and “Lilacs”, op. 21 no. 5. Lukas Geniušas adds solo piano works: the Preludes op. 23 no. 6 and op. 32 no. 13, as well as Rachmaninov’s transcriptions of Mussorgsky’s “Hopak”, Rimsky-Korsakov’s “Flight of the Bumblebee” and his own song “Daisies”.

The recital is artistically linked to the album “Dissonance”, released by Asmik Grigorian and Lukas Geniušas in 2022; the television production is a concert recording in its own right. It was filmed beneath the glass roof between the castle’s old stone walls, where a rail camera, a cable camera and a drone complemented the conventional camera positions.
