KLANG DER BERGE
A year in the Austrian Alps, told through its sounds – a four-part documentary series about nature, work, craft and music.
“Klang der Berge” is devoted to the sound worlds of nature and within nature. On the one hand, these are the tones and noises that nature creates itself: the roar of a waterfall, the thunder of a rockfall, the display call of a capercaillie in the stillness of the morning. On the other, they are the sounds that people create in the Alpine world, inspired by nature and landscape – alphorns and bells, instrumental music and song, outdoors as well as when making music together in the parlour.
The four films follow the cycle of the year: spring tells of thaw and new beginnings, summer of work and an abundance of sound, autumn of farewell and passing on, winter of retreat, silence and the forces of the cold. At their centre are people who live in these landscapes and shape them through their work, their music and their traditions – in instrument making and craft, on the alpine pastures and in customs that differ greatly from one region of Austria to another.
In this way “Klang der Berge” adds listening to the image of the mountains and creates encounters with people for whom musical traditions are still a natural part of their lives.
